A Kidnapping at the English Saddles Camp
All was going well at the English Saddles summer camp until one Wednesday morning when one of the campers, a twelve-year-old boy named Cyril, was kidnapped from a shady path that wound through the pines.
The Suspects were:
- the camp counselor
- the camp owner
- the horse groomer
- Cyril’s uncle
- the cook
- the farrier (horse shoer)
Clues:
- At the time of the kidnapping, two of the suspects were watching some of the campers swimming.
- No one could tell apart two of the suspects who were identical twins.
- The camp counselor had only step-siblings — two stepsisters who had started law school last year when he was finishing grade 12. The stepsisters were summering in Vermont.
- The horse groomer asked one of the twins out on a date but she turned him down.
- There was an equal number of male and female suspects.
- The twins, who were not teenagers, had recently had a large birthday celebration when they had turned an age that was a perfect square.
- Cyril’s uncle was his mother’s older brother. The uncle had been 3 when Cyril’s mum was born. She was 25 when she had Cyril.
- The camp owner’s age was a perfect cube greater than 40.
- The horse groomer was blind owing to a fireworks accident that took place five years ago when he was 39.
- The youngest and oldest suspects were at a horse auction together when the kidnapping took place.
- Cyril’s friend Thomas, who was one of the children swimming at the time of the kidnapping, said the two swimming supervisors were the same sex.
- The oldest suspect was the only one whose age was both a perfect square and a perfect cube.
- The kidnapper stole the owner’s Rolls Royce and drove away in it with Cyril.
