Individual Tutoring: Math Enrichment for Advanced 2nd – 8th Grade Students

With a degree in mathematics, graduate training in gifted math education, and 46 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I specialize in working with children in grades 2–8 who are eager for more challenging math than they are offered in school.

Each session is tailored to the child’s level and natural pace of learning.

My work is designed to:

I use direct instruction to teach students how to make sense of unfamiliar problems: identifying what is known, choosing and revising a strategy, keeping track of their reasoning, testing ideas, and checking whether an answer makes sense. We practice all of this by solving problems together, and I provide immediate feedback.

I match the mathematical content and materials to each child’s needs and interests. Depending on the child, I draw from Math Academy (a learning platform designed for strong math learners), logic puzzles, my own books and curriculum, and other resources that engage, challenge, and inspire. I encourage children to work independently between our sessions.
