Math Academy Study Groups
Purpose:
The Math Academy Study Group is a focused, small-group learning experience on Zoom in which each student works on Math Academy assignments tailored to their individual level. With 44 years of experience teaching math, I provide expert guidance and personalized support to help each child master concepts while building confidence and developing strong learning habits. The group is intended for students who are eager to learn more math than is offered in their regular school classroom.
About Math Academy:
We will use Math Academy as our learning platform. This online program is grounded in cognitive science and leverages the most effective learning practices to help students excel. It is designed for strong math students. Math Academy centers on active learning, micro-scaffolding, targeted practice, interleaving, layering, and spaced repetition to ensure that each child progresses efficiently and effectively. By assessing the child’s current abilities, Math Academy allows students to focus on math concepts that are precisely at their level and work at their own natural pace, maximizing their learning potential. Format:
The study group meets on Zoom twice a week—on Tuesdays and Thursdays—in two separate sessions:
- Pre-Algebra: 5:00 pm – 5:30 pm
- Integrated Math 1/Algebra 1: 5:30 pm – 6:00 pm
This twice-weekly format is designed to motivate children to work more consistently on math that is at their real level. I strongly encourage students to develop a daily habit of solving math problems that are neither too easy nor too hard. During the sessions, students work independently on their Math Academy assignments with the opportunity to ask questions and receive immediate, individualized help. The group setting fosters a collaborative atmosphere where students can learn from each other, share strategies, and stay motivated. Students who wish to work together to solve a specific problem can do this in a breakout room.

Payment:
The cost is $500 for 10 weeks, which includes two study group sessions per week. Payment is required in advance to secure your child’s spot.
Enrollment:
Spaces are limited to ensure each child receives the attention and support they need. Please contact me to reserve your child’s place and to discuss which session is best suited for their current level. I offer some flexibility in group placement. For example, if a child is nearly finished with Pre-Algebra and would be happier in the IM1 group with a friend, this can be accommodated. The levels are intended to maximize learning, enjoyment, and confidence.
