Individual Tutoring: Math Enrichment for Advanced 2nd – 8th Grade Students

With a degree in mathematics, graduate training in gifted math education, and 45 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I specialize in working with children in grades 2–8 who are eager for more challenging math than they are offered in school.

Each session is carefully tailored to the the child’s level and natural pace of learning.

My work is designed to:

  • Offer both intellectual challenge and deep connection
  • Instill a life-long love of learning
  • Develop each child’s capacity to explore, question, and reason with rigor, precision, and joy
  • Reveal the beauty of mathematics
  • Develop confidence, independence, and resilience

I weave direct instruction in how to learn into my teaching. Rather than isolating executive function or metacognitive skills and trying to strengthen these in isolation, I embed them in the co-solving of problems—where they are most naturally understood, practiced with immediate feedback, and retained.

I match the curriculum/content to each child’s needs and interests. I typically use a combination of guided problem-solving, Math Academy (a learning platform designed for strong math learners), logic problems and books I have written, curriculum I have designed myself, and any other resources that engage and inspire. I encourage children to work independently between our sessions.
